SUT Reaffirms Global Engineering Standards:
ABET Approves Accreditation Extension for the "Civil Engineering Program" Until 2029

 

 

 

     Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) continuously demonstrates its capacity for delivering international-standard education. Recently, SUT announced the success of its Civil Engineering program, which has received a one-year accreditation extension from ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology), a globally recognized accrediting agency from the United States, extending the certification until September 2029.  

 

 

 

     Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sittichai Seangatith, Acting Rector of Suranaree University of Technology, spoke about this achievement, stating, "The continuous ABET accreditation of our university's programs is a significant milestone that reflects SUT's academic potential and robustness on an international scale. Crucially, achieving ABET accreditation is a primary Key Performance Indicator (KPI) for Group 1 higher education institutions, designated as Frontier Research Universities. This accomplishment, therefore, reinforces SUT's strategic direction and reputation as a leader in education and research. It highlights our dedication to continuous quality improvement to produce high-caliber engineering graduates who are well-equipped to meet the demands of the global industry."

 

 

 

     Furthermore, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pornsiri Jongkol, Dean of the Institute of Engineering at SUT, provided additional details regarding this decision: "The Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Executive Committee under ABET reached a consensus on July 19th to extend the accreditation end date for SUT's Bachelor of Engineering program in Civil Engineering to September 30, 2029. This extension aims to help manage and balance the workload of the EAC during the 2027-2028 accreditation cycle."  

 

 

 

     Consequently, this extension will adjust the next EAC review for SUT's Civil Engineering program to the 2028-2029 accreditation cycle. The Institute of Engineering will prepare to submit a Request for Evaluation (RFE) by January 31, 2028, to maintain continuous accreditation.
