Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) has reinforced its academic and research prowess by securing the 12th position among Thai universities, 461st in Asia, and 1,425th globally out of over 12,000 institutions worldwide. This achievement is based on the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities announced in July 2026, published by a leading ranking organization under the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in Madrid, Spain.

For the overall national rankings, the top three universities in Thailand are Chulalongkorn University, Mahidol University, and Chiang Mai University, respectively.

Webometrics Ranking Methodology

The Webometrics ranking does not merely evaluate the design quality of a university's website. Rather, it utilizes digital presence as a proxy to reflect multifaceted performance, including academic output, research strength, transparency in knowledge dissemination, and international recognition. The evaluation is based on three primary indicators:

Impact or Visibility (50%): Assessed by the number of external networks linking to the institution's webpages (External Referring Domains).

Excellence (40%): Evaluated based on the number of research papers positioned in the top 10% of the most cited papers globally, utilizing data from the Scopus/SCImago databases.

Openness or Transparency (10%): Measured by the number of citations from top researchers' profiles on Google Scholar.
