SUT Ranks 9th in Thailand and Joint 701st Globally

in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026

 

     Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) has been ranked 9th among Thailand’s leading sustainable universities and joint 701st globally in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026. This year, SUT demonstrated remarkable improvement, rising in both national and global standings compared with the previous year—reflecting the university’s strong commitment to advancing sustainability across all dimensions and its growing success on the international stage.

 

     Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sittichai Seangatith, Acting Rector of Suranaree University of Technology, stated: “SUT has been ranked 9th in Thailand and joint 701st globally, achieving an overall score of 61.6 points, a significant increase of 15 points from last year. This improvement elevated the university’s position from 10th in Thailand and 898th in the world. The score increase covers all major and sub-indicators, including environmental impact, social contribution, sustainable operations, transparency, and engagement at both local and international levels.”

     Among the indicators assessed, SUT performed particularly well in Governance, scoring 86.6 points and ranking 5th among Thai universities. This marks an impressive increase of 15.7 points from last year, highlighting the university’s strong commitment to transparent, effective, and integrity-driven governance.

     SUT also showed significant progress in the Social Impact category, earning 60.8 points and ranking 10th nationally, with an improvement of 14.7 points. This reflects the university’s continued efforts to promote equal opportunities, community engagement, and social well-being.

 

   

     In the Environmental Impact category, SUT received 55.8 points, ranking 10th in Thailand, and increasing by 14.6 points from the previous year. This progress demonstrates the university’s success in environmental initiatives such as expanding green spaces, reducing waste, improving energy efficiency, and promoting a Zero Waste culture across the campus.

     These achievements reaffirm SUT’s role as a university dedicated to sustainable development and its readiness to progress toward becoming an institution that is fully responsible to society and the environment.

 

      The QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026, conducted by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) in the United Kingdom, evaluated 2,002 universities worldwide, including 827 institutions from Asia and 19 from Thailand. The top three universities globally were Lund University, the University of Toronto, and University College London (UCL). In Thailand, the top three institutions were Chulalongkorn University, Chiang Mai University, and Mahidol University, respectively.

The ranking assesses sustainability performance based on three major indicators:

  • Social Impact – 45%
  • Environmental Impact – 45%
  • Governance – 10%
