Three Years Strong: SUT Tops Waste Management Rankings in Thailand
and Ranks 65th Globally in the 2024 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings
Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) has achieved top recognition as the No. 1 university in Thailand for waste management for the third year in a row, according to the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking 2024. Overall, SUT ranks 4th in Thailand and 65th globally among 1,477 participating universities worldwide.

The UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, initiated by the University of Indonesia (UI) in 2010, evaluates universities based on their commitment to environmental sustainability and green practices. The assessment covers six main criteria:
1. Setting and Infrastructure (15%): Evaluates green spaces, water management, and campus waste management systems.
2. Energy and Climate Change (21%): Assesses energy efficiency, renewable energy usage, and carbon emissions reduction efforts.
3. Waste (18%): Focuses on waste management strategies, including recycling and composting initiatives.
4. Water (10%): Reviews water usage and conservation measures.
5. Transportation (18%): Examines policies promoting sustainable transportation, such as public transit and cycling.
6. Education and Research (18%): Highlights sustainability-focused education and research activities.
Since its founding in 1993, SUT has prioritized its Green and Clean University policy, successfully revitalizing over 6,000 acres of degraded forest. The university emphasizes environmental restoration, enhancing campus greenery, and improving infrastructure to create a sustainable and attractive academic environment.


In 2024, SUT earned a total score of 8,685 points, an increase of 110 points from the previous year, reflecting its continuous improvement. Among the 59 Thai universities in this year's rankings, the top five are:
Kasetsart University
Mahidol University
King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi
Suranaree University of Technology
Siam University
This marks the 12th consecutive year SUT has participated in the rankings, further solidifying its reputation as a leader in sustainability and environmental management.
