SUT Senior Fellows of HEA connect with other Fellows Worldwide at AdvanceHE Conference.

AdvanceHE (formerly Higher Education Academy, HEA) of the United Kingdom organised its annual Teaching and Learning Conference this year from June 2nd-4th, 2019 at Northumbria University, Newcastle, England. Under the theme ‘Teaching in the Spotlight: Innovation for Teaching Excellence’, the conference explores a variety of innovative issues that underpin and lead to excellence in higher education teaching, such as inclusive curricula, student transition, retention, and experience, assessment and feedback, as well as employability.

This year, SUT sent its three Senior Fellows of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) to attend the conference. Regarded as an attempt to increase SUT visibility for the first time at this global teaching and learning support-focused community of HEA Fellows, the 3 SFHEAs, i.e. Assistant Professor Dr Panarat Rattanaphanee, Assistant Professor Dr Porntip Nimkuntod, and Assistant Professor Dr Issra Pramoolsook, learned, shared, and connected with other HEA Fellows from around the world. More importantly, Drs Panarat and Porntip co-presented a paper on a collaborated research project with Professor Abby Cathcart and Dr Ian Davis from QUT, Australia. Titled ‘Understanding the complexity of global partnerships: Thailand and Australia a cross-cultural case study’, this paper examines what happens when countries outside of the UK engage with the Professional Standards Framework (PSF) and why, as well as what the impacts on their teaching and learning support practice are. The presentation made an impression on the audience and drew their attention to SUT, the first university in Thailand that implemented the PSF for its teaching and learning support quality.

In line with SUT Re-Profile 2020, this trip by the 3 SFHEAs certainly plays a crucial part in promoting the international outlook of SUT and confirms its strong commitment to enhancing the quality of teaching and support of learning for the benefit of our students. SUT also plans to host a similar kind of teaching and learning conference as a part of our 30th Anniversary in 2020. It is hoped that AdvanceHE will endorse and support the initiative of hosting this academic event which will be the first one in Asia and the Pacific.
