SUT ranks 6th among Thailand’s leading universities and Top 3 among technology-focused institutions in THE World University Rankings 2026

 

According to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026

Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) is ranked 6th among Thailand’s leading universities and 3rd among the nation’s technology-focused universities, according to the official results of the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026, announced on 9 October 2025 by Times Higher Education (THE), United Kingdom.

This year, the ranking evaluated more than 3,118 universities from 115 countries worldwide. The University of Oxford (United Kingdom) retains its position as the world’s No.1 university.


Among 31 Thai universities participating in the assessment, 21 universities were ranked globally, distributed as follows: one in the 501–600 band, one in 601–800, one in 801–1000, two in 1001–1200, six in 1201–1500, and ten in the 1501+ band.

SUT is placed in the 1201–1500 global band, sharing the 6th position nationally with Walailak University, King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok, Khon Kaen University, Prince of Songkla University, and Thammasat University. The Top 5 Thai universities are Chulalongkorn University, Mahidol University, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Chiang Mai University, and Mae Fah Luang University.

 

The THE World University Rankings 2026 assess universities across five key areas comprising 13 performance indicators:

  • Teaching (29.5%)
  • Research Environment (29.0%)
  • Research Quality (30.0%)
  • International Outlook (7.5%)
  • Industry (4.0%)

SUT achieved an overall score of 27.3, an increase of 2.0 points from the previous year, with strong performance in several dimensions:

  • 5th in Teaching
  • 7th in Research Environment
  • 7th in Industry
  • 11th in International Outlook
  • 13th in Research Quality

 

 

Remarkable Improvements Across Key Indicators

 

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pornsiri Jongkol, Acting Rector of Suranaree University of Technology,

“SUT has shown continuous improvement across three key dimensions — Teaching, Research Quality, and Industry — with notable score increases compared to the previous year. The university’s performance demonstrates its ongoing development in academic quality, research excellence, and engagement with the industrial sector. These achievements reflect the dedication and strength of SUT’s personnel and effective management, which are vital to driving the university toward excellence both nationally and internationally.”

Specifically, SUT recorded increases in three major categories:

  • Teaching: 25.0 (+3.3 points), ranking 5th in Thailand
  • Research Quality: 33.7 (+4.1 points), ranking 12th in Thailand
  • Industry: 52.4 (+0.2 points), ranking 7th in Thailand

In the sub-indicators, SUT demonstrated particular strengths in:

  • Institutional Income: 90.1 points (2nd in Thailand)
  • Doctorate Staff Ratio: 61.6 points (3rd in Thailand)
  • Doctorate to Bachelor Ratio: 39.4 points (6th in Thailand)
     

These results highlight SUT’s consistent progress and strong academic performance, reinforcing its mission to foster innovation, promote high-quality research, and strengthen partnerships with industry — key pillars in advancing toward excellence at national and global levels.
