Institute of Medicine (IM), Suranaree University of Technology (SUT): A Hub for Medicine Exploration
Background:
Suranaree University of Technology has proposed a project to establish a School of Medicine. Requesting approval to proceed in August 1993, the Cabinet at its meeting on January 18, 1994 voted in principle and have the University Affairs Office prepared details of the readiness and feasibility of the project. The Cabinet, in a meeting on June 7, 1994, resolved to approve in principle the Ministry of Public Health to create a project to produce more doctors for rural people during the period 1996 - 2006. Later, the Minister of University Affairs and the Minister of The Ministry of Public Health signed an agreement to produce more doctors for rural people. Between the Ministry of Public Health and the University Affairs Office on December 19, 1994, the Institute of Medicine Science created a project to establish a health science system in January 1995, which consisted of the School of Medicine, School of Dentistry, School of Pharmacy, School of Nursing Science and the medical center. In the first phase, the Institute of Medicine, School of Nursing Science and the medical center were established to produce doctors, nurses, and medical technology which is a shortage of higher education personnel.
Later in 1997, Thailand encountered economic problems. Therefore, the said project had to be postponed for the time being. In 1998, Institute of Medicine developed 5 undergraduate education curricula, which the Academic Council Suranaree University of Technology In Meeting No. 8/1998 on 25 November 1998, the following approvals were given: 1. Bachelor of Science Program Department of Environmental Health (New curriculum 1998) 2. Bachelor of Science Program Department of Occupational Health and Safety (New curriculum 1998) 3. Bachelor of Science Program Field of study: Medical Technology (New curriculum 1998) 4. Bachelor of Nursing Science Program Nursing major (New curriculum 1998) 5. Doctor of Medicine program (revised edition 1998)

Medical students participated in the 2023 East Asian Medical Students' Conference (EMASC) with the theme "Mountains and Wilderness Medicine." Kathmandu, Nepal.

Medical students Year 6 students participated in exchange training (Elective Outbound) in the field of Pediatric General and Urogenital Surgery Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Juntendo, Japan.
