A man who sparked inspiration, expanded minds,

embraced transformation, and achieved meaningful change.

An esteemed scholar and scientist,

a visionary leader with the heart of a true educator,

who left a profound and lasting legacy at SUT and in Thailand’s higher education system.

 


 

Professor Dr. Prasart Suebka served as Rector of Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) for three consecutive terms, totaling 12 years from 2005 to 2017. Throughout his presidency, he devoted himself to advancing the university across all missions — producing graduates in science and technology who possess knowledge, virtue, wisdom, dignity, and pride. He upheld SUT’s identity as a university of innovation and transformation, achieving excellence in academics, research, and public service for the benefit of the nation and its people.

 

     

He introduced the principle that “Social problems are the university’s research questions”, and implemented the “From Shelf to Market” policy, which focused on commercializing research outputs for industrial, agricultural, and community development. He championed SUT’s role as a “trusted partner and pillar of society.” Under his bold and visionary leadership, the university advanced rapidly and sustainably, becoming recognized as one of Thailand’s Nine National Research Universities, known for its outstanding achievements in both research and teaching. He truly was, and will always be remembered as, one who inspired, expanded, transformed, and delivered.

 

Beyond his rectorship, Professor Dr. Prasart Suebka held numerous key national and international roles, including:

– Vice Rector of SUT across four domains: Academic Affairs, Planning, Administration, and Development

– Founding Dean of the School of Science, and Acting Dean of the School of Medicine, SUT

 

– Chair, Conference of Deans of Science of Thailand

– Chair, National Science Talent Training Program

– Chair, Committee for Establishment of the National Astronomical Research Institute

– Advisor to the Minister of Science, Technology, and Environment

– Chair, Council of Presidents of Public Autonomous Universities

– Founding President, Thailand Association of Professional and Organizational Development in Higher Education (QAPHE)

– Member, National Legislative Assembly

– Chair, Council of University Presidents of Thailand

– Chair, University Sports Board of Thailand

– Chair, Commission on Higher Education

– Chair, Board of Directors, Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology

– President, University Council of Vongchavalitkul University, Nakhon Ratchasima

– President, Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP)

– First Vice President, ASAIHL

He had served as a faculty member since the founding of Suranaree University of Technology and played an instrumental role in supporting and advancing the university’s academic and research endeavors, gaining recognition both nationally and internationally.

He devoted himself to teaching at all levels — undergraduate, master's, and doctoral — and was pivotal in building a strong academic and research network within the university, a contribution widely acknowledged.

In recognition of his lifelong dedication, the University Council of Suranaree University of Technology, during its 8th meeting of 2025 held on September 7, unanimously resolved toconfer upon Professor Dr. Prasart Suebka the title of Professor Emeritus in Physics
as a lasting tribute to his outstanding legacy.

– Chair, Feasibility Study Committee for a National Industrial Medical and Nuclear Research Innovation Program

His spirit of dedication and legacy of excellence will forever remain the foundation upon which Suranaree University of Technology continues to grow.
