SUT stresses
strengthening research through increasing resources in
many forms. Most university faculty receive outside research
funding and the trend is that there will be more outside
funding in the future. In the fiscal year 2004, the university
has allocated government and outside funding for 266 projects
of faculty and graduate students of different schools
of the university.
Dissemination of Research Results
During the Academic Year 2004, SUT disseminated results
of the research conducted by instructors and graduate
students through national and international journals in
the following ratios.
One Instructor One Product Project
Suranaree University of Technology introduced the policy
of ¨One Instructor One Product? in 2002 aiming to encourage
and support the university faculty to produce more academic
works or other forms of academic achievements in addition
to regular routines for their own career progress and
improving their teaching methods or developing the effectiveness
of university operation. Under this policy, one instructor
should come up with one academic product within a year
cycle.
In 2003 (1 January - 31 December 2003), there were 179
instructors participating in the project out of the total
220 instructors (81.36%) with 178 instructors presenting
their papers. The total number of the products in 198
presented in different formats as follows :
The Golden Jubilee Doctoral Program
The Golden Jubilee’s Doctoral Program is jointly offered
by the Thailand Research Fund (TRF), Office of Commission
on Higher Education, Ministry of Education, and the National
Science and Technology Development Administration (NSTDA)
to produce research and doctoral level researchers in
response to the national demand in the next 25 years.
Suranaree University of Technology has been selected to
be one of the receipients of the scholarships under the
Golden Jubilee’s Doctoral Program since 1997, with the
subsidy grant of 2.1 millions Baht for each project, not
more than 5 years of implementation period, which can
be summarized as follows :
Patents and Property Rights
SUT has developed research activities that led to ownerships
of patents and property rights for the first time in the
Academic Years 2002 and 2004 for the following 12 items.
Patents
1. Image Multiple Transmission Method and Its System
2. Production Methods for Grass-Ceramic, Calcium Pirophosphate
Type
3. Lamination Methods for Fibers by Proteinciritin
4. Equipment to Control The Movement of Microsyring
Sucking Stem
5. Proteinciritin Lamination Methods for Fibers
6. Cell Connecting Machine by Direct Current
7. Production Methods for Gel Powder from Plants
8. High Capacity Small Incinerator
9. Image Multiplex Transmission Method and Its System
10. Reverse Flowing Dryer
Property Rights
1. Program Roses (Rock Slope Design Using Expert System)
2. BSR Program (Borehole Seal Design in Rock Formation
Using Expert System)
Researchers’ Development Scholarships
(TRDF Researchers)
Researcher?s Development Scholarships encourage mid
level researchers to carry out continuous research activities
and be well accepted internationally. These scholarships
are awarded through strict selection process and have
tough competitions. So, being selected as a TRDF researcher
is a great pride for new and mid level researchers and
brings fame to their respective universities. In the
fiscal year 2004, the following SUT instructors were
awarded the scholarships:
Research Groups’ Development Scholarships (TRDF Senior
Researchers)
Research Groups’ Development Scholarships aim to strengthen
and support senior researchers with high competence
and good ethics to further train and guide young researchers,
build teamwork, develop activities and new researchers
that can in turn build up national intellectual capacity
in the long run. In the fiscal year 2004, one SUT instructor
was selected to work with TRDF Senior Researcher:
Research Scholarships for New Bodies of Knowledge Fundamental
to Development (TRDF Advanced Senior Researcher)
These are the scholarships aiming to build a new body
of knowledge fundamental to development intended for
mid level researchers who have had at least articles
published in an international journal during the last
five years, been the first author or corresponding author
of the articles, and had accumulated Impact Factors
at a “good” level. In the 2004 fiscal year, one SUT
instructor was awarded the scholarship.
Technology Adaptation, Transfer and Development
Suranaree University of Technology has continuously
carried out technology adaptation, transfer and development
in the form of meetings,
training, seminars and consultations. Some of the research
results transferred and adapted to the community are
